How we compare
CheapToRun compares heaters, radiators, heated throws, dehumidifiers and heated airers sold on Amazon.co.uk by what they really cost to run in a British home.
How we work out running costs
We multiply each appliance's power by the electricity unit rate of the Ofgem price cap (26.32p/kWh, Direct Debit, national average, 1 October to 31 December 2026). Heaters on a thermostat are assumed to heat about 60 % of the time. Your bill also depends on your region, tariff and standing charge.
How we rank products
Our score rewards what makes a heater cheaper to live with (a thermostat, timers and schedules, eco modes, Wi-Fi), safety features (tip-over and overheat protection, splash protection), and what buyers say and buy on Amazon, summarised in our own words. We do not test products at home: we combine manufacturers' specifications, Amazon listings, buyer feedback and the running-cost maths. Newer models with few reviews score lower until buyers have had their say.
